Beautiful Words

According to a worldwide survey conducted by the British Council (the governement agency that promotes British culture around the globe), the top ten most beautiful words in the English language according to more than 40,000 people in 102 non-English speaking countires are:

10) Tranquility
9) Liberty
8) Freedom
7) Destiny
6) Fantastic
5) Eternity
4) Love
3) Smile
2) Passion
1) Mother

Most of them seem to be words that describe concepts as opposed to concrete things. I have no clue if that has anything to do with anything, but it's interesting.

Yeah, I dunno, there's nothing unique about these concepts to the English language. I'd have rather they concentrated on words that have some sort of beauty to the word, not the concept. Here's some suggestions to get the ball rolling.

1. Gazebo.
2. Aflutter
3. Assassin
4. Phenomenom

I dunno Glenn. Nothing beautiful about a gazebo, unless you admire their sheer determination to kill! I mean have you ever seen those things in a feeding frenzy? Wind instruments and blue hair flying!

And as to Assassin . . .well, that's only English by mistranslation of (somebody spot my spelling here) Hashasheen.

And while the garden paradise the were trained in may have been beautiful, and I'm sure they saw pretty colors from all the drugs, the Hashasheen themselves were less than beautiful.

How about:
Lollipop
Linoleum (as in la, la, la LINOLEUM! Thanks Bert!)
Fresh
Pretty much any soothing onomatapeia.
Waves
